British and Allied Officers from WoFun Games

As I build my Napoleonic forces in 18mm using the pre-painted, flat miniatures from WoFun Games, I needed some more Generals and officers for both sides so I could play a variety of different rules to include Napoleonic Wargaming, by Neil Thomas, Volley and Bayonet, the PDF rules that came with the WoFun Games Peninsular Starter Pack in 18mm, etc. So, what do you get for US $21.26, to include bases, in 18mm with the British and Allied Officers pack? First my favorite figure from the pack:

That is one dangerous looking senorita! Plus I need to brush some static grass off the figure.

The below picture is half of the figures that come in 18mm; and of course I started punching them out and mounting them and then I remembered to take a picture! In 18mm you get two of each of the below (40 in total for 18mm!); in 28mm only the above. There is a nice selection of  British, Portuguese and Spanish Generals, Aide-de-Camps, Senior officers, Cavalry Senior officers, and surprise - dismounted officers to include Spanish Guerillas. You guessed it, I have to buy some Spanish Guerillas now (Darn you WoFun!). 

I particularly like the dismounted officers as I am now swapping out some of the officers that came with the infantry packs to give more variety to the command bases. The British and Allied Officers pack, when selecting the WoFun Bases standard option, comes with  30mm x 30mm circular bases for the mounted figures and 15mm x 15mm square bases for the dismounted figures.

My Army Commander is mounted on an extra WoFun 30mm x 20mm rectangular base for the simple fact is that I can add more figures to the base. My Division and Brigade commanders will be mounted on a circular 30mm x 30mm base with 2 figures for a Division Commander and 1 figure for the Brigade Commander.

I'm building a generic Allied Peninsular army and it is still a work in progress. Here is my first Division commander:

WoFun Dutch Infantry: The Heroes of French Allied Conversions

The kind folks at WoFun Games once again (!) sent me another free pack with my latest order. This time they sent me the Dutch Infantry; however, I already had two battalions for my Composite Dutch Infantry Regiment that was part of the German Division in Napoleon's Peninsular Army. Earlier I had decided not to add the Frankfurt Battalion to the German Division as it was a one battalion organization and there were no figures for the battalion available from WoFun. About two weeks ago it dawned on me - the Dutch wore white uniforms based on French uniforms and most of France's allies adopted French uniforms. Time to convert!

I'm organizing the German Division based on their organization at the Battle of Talavera. The Frankfurt Battalion, organized along French lines (4 Fusilier companies, 1 grenadier company and 1 voltiguer company) deployed to Spain wearing white uniforms with red facings. After a year of campaigning their uniforms were wearing out; fortunately for them they captured large quantities of blue cloth and suddenly, they were now dressed in blue.

I wanted the jackets to be a slightly lighter shade of blue than the French troops and Vallejo Dark Blue worked perfectly. For the red facings I used Vallejo flat red. Though their are some minor details in the uniform that is incorrect, at 18mm scale and at gaming distance it looks great.

Just stay in the lines and instant Frankfurt infantry (don't worry, the figures look better than the photo as I did not adjust the lighting correctly!).

Getting the flag correct was a challenge in research; there contradictory descriptions of their flag and no known illustrations. Based on the descriptions, Malcom O'Conner from the Facebook group Napoleonic 15mm Wargamer designed a beautiful representation of the flag.

French Napoleonic Mounted Commanders from WoFun Games

The above is half of the figures that come in 18mm, I was so excited when they came that I started punching them out and mounting them and then I remembered to take a picture! In 18mm you get two of each of the above (34 in total for 18mm!); in 28mm only the above. There is a nice selection of French Marshals, Generals, Aide-de-Camps, Senior officers, Cavalry Senior officers, etc.

My Army Commanders/Corps Commanders will have 3 to 4 figures mounted per base. My Division and Brigade commanders will be mounted on a circular 30mm x 30mm base with 2 figures for a Division Commander and 1 figure for the Brigade Commander.

Here is how I made the bases look "pretty" (a good base can cover up a multitude of sins):

I first insert the mounted figure into the 30mm x 30mm circular base.

I use regular masking tape to cover the open parts of the slot.

Put some "glops" of white glue around the base.

Water down the white glue with an old paint brush.

Stick the base in the handy, dandy, magical box of hobby sand. Shake off the excess.

Once the sand dries, I put another coating of water downed white glue over the sand as an extra sealant to protect the base.

I then do smaller "glops" of white glue, water down the glue and spread it a little, and then dip the base in the handy, dandy, magic box of static grass. Shake off the excess into the box or whatever container you use. Ta Dah! All done.

The rear of the base. After looking back at the picture, I used an old, dry brush to wipe the excess static grass that was on the horse.

I'm building my French Army based on the IV Corps d'Armee at Talavera. I may not do the full corps, but I'm close to having 2 Divisions and 1/2 of the Cavalry Brigade; but right now, I am real weak in artillery. Here are the commanders so far:
