The conclusion of The Bloody Battle of Hacking and Slashing with some Roaring and Rolling of dice on the Kitchen Table

Let them fight.

Quick recap:  The Dragon and the Troll duke it out and the Troll flees!  Also a bunch of really Grumpy Orcs demonstrate what could pin cushions they are and get sliced and diced in hand to hand and also flee!  Looking good for our heroes.  Huzzah!

For anyone keeping score the Armored Horse Archers of the Plains with their Friendly Dragon have successfully completed the quest "Drive them out" (1 Glory Point). The warband only needed to make at least one enemy unit Retreat off the table during the game and so far two have retreated.  They are also well on their way to accomplishing "I will destroy more units than I lose" (2 Glory Points).

But the boys in black did not realize that they had lost the battle.

The Dragon Fodder Orcs make a magnificent charge up the ridge to attack the mighty Fred.

This just looks cool.  The game would have gone faster if I hadn't kept taking pictures!

This is what fantasy gaming and Dragon Rampant are about - fun!

A bird's eye view of the battle as the "Who Us?" Orcs finally move and are hit by arrows losing 2 figures.  I was surprised at the effectiveness of my mounted archers (good dice rolls!).

Fred, though wounded, kills 8 of the Dragon Fodder Orcs which are now Battered . . .

. . . and then is immediately attacked by the fearsome Rebar of the Crooked Sword.

Fred is momentarily stunned and flies away . . .

 The Dragon Fodder Orcs rally.

 The "Who Us?" Orcs advance!

In a surprise move, though wounded, Fred flies back to the fray.

Fred started with 6 strength points and has lost 4.  He is below half strength and now has to fight at half strength; i.e. 6 dice instead of 12.  Fred lost the fight and 1 more point.  He rolled a 1 for courage and with deductions was below zero and flew away from the field of valor.

The orcs have fulfilled the quest "Smite their champions" (2 Glory Points) which is to rout or kill the enemy's highest point value unit.  That would be Fred at 10 points.

Troop #2 counterattacks the "Who Us?" Orcs scattering them and causing them to be Battered and to retreat.

Just a side note, the banner bearer is the first plastic figure I ever converted.

"Dang it", says Rebar, "Just when we had a chance."

Then it was Troop #2's turn to attack and it was not pretty for the orcs.

This fight would cause them to retreat off the table . . .

. . . while the Captain of the Lonely Tree leads Troop #1 as the advance on Rebar of the Crooked Sword from the other side separating him from his Dragon Fodder Orcs. "Well I think I lost," stated Rebar of the Crooked Sword.

A great game that was played in 6 turns in less than a hour. After the second turn we were not checking the rule book but just used our rosters and reference sheet to play. It was actually closer than the narrative suggests and was tuck and go the entire game until the end.  In this scenario the player that earns the most points from destroying or routing enemy units will get 5 Glory Points. So let's tally the score:

The Armored Horse Archers of the Plains with their Friendly Dragon:  Grumpy Orcs with the Big White Hand Banner destroyed/routed: 6 points;  Whatagut the Troll destroyed/routed: 6 points;
"Who Us?" Orcs destroyed/routed: 3 points.

The OrcsFred, Dragon Lord of the Skies destroyed/routed: 10 points.

The Armored Horse Archers of the Plains with their Friendly Dragon earn 5 Glory points. But wait, there's more!  Now we will tally the Quest Glory points!

The Armored Horse Archers of the Plains with their Friendly Dragon:
1. "I will destroy more units than I lose." Destroy more enemy units than you lose. 2 Glory Points.
2. "Every blade shall be drawn." Each of the units must succeed in making at least one Attack during the game. 1 Glory Point.
3. "Drive them out." The warband needs to make at least one enemy unit Retreat off the table during the game. 1 Glory Point.

The Orcs:
1. "Smite their champions." The orcs must rout or kill the enemy's highest point value unit.  That would be Fred. 2 Glory Points.
2. "They will tremble before me." At least two enemy units must be Battered at any one time. Nope; minus 2 Glory Points.
3. "They shall taste our blades." The orcs must cause at least 3 Strength Points of damage in a single turn (distributed between one or more units). 1 Glory Point.

Final Tally: The good guys 9 Glory points, the bad guys 1 Glory point. Huzzah!
