The Colonel’s Recovery Repeats: 42nd Highland Unit Complete

I love Highlanders and Highland units! Originally published November 19, 2020:

Kin ye spell "Shock Infantry"?

I finished what I consider my "main" unit for my initial British Force for Rebels and Patriots . My Highland unit will be a Shock Infantry unit that is Big (18 figures) and Aggressive (+1) in Fighting. But more on that later when I post the entire, initial British Force. Miniatures are from Warlord Games and the Lifht Company miniatures are from North Star.

My Second Company of Compagnies Franches de la Marine

Lieutenant Charles Deschamps de Boishébert et de Raffetot, Compagnies Franches de la Marine points out to his men where he wants the ambush set-up to defeat the their enemies from Great Britain.

My initial French Force for the French and Indian War, using the rules Rebel and Patriots, is complete. As a longtime gamer, of course there will be units added to the army! Here is my second unit of the Compagnies Franches de la Marine. I'm not going to go into the background and history as it was covered in a previous post when I did my first unit of Compagnies Franches de la Marine.

I wanted this unit to look different than my other Compagnies Franches de la Marine unit, and fortunately, the men wore a variety of dress as campaigning in the North American colonies of Great Britain and New France took a toll on regular uniforms. As a unit of light infantry and experienced with the terrain, their uniforms are practical as well as distinctive from my other unit dressed with only the blue jacket.

The complete unit of 12. Figures from North Star Miniatures Musket and Tomahawk Range  available from North Star and Brigade Games.

Scouting with Native allies. Indian Warriors from Warlord Games.

Warlord Games Native Warband

Except for the figure on the rock (Magua from Warlord Games), all figures came from the boxed metal set (19 in total) from Warlord Games.

As readers of the blog know, I've been painting 6 figures at a time of my Native Warband to:

a. Individually painted figures (non-production line) take longer.
b. To give me a "creative" break between groups.

Stole this from A J's Wargames Table.

I had a great time painting these figures for the French and Indian War as I have never painted Native Americans (except for one US deputy marshal in the Wild West) and I had a great time looking at primary source illustrations, reading eyewitness accounts, and looking at what contemporary artists have done.

The last six, primarily based on descriptions of the Battle of Bushy Run.

For the entire War Band of 18 figures (categorized as Large for Rebels and Patriots if I use all 18) I went with the 3, 2, 1 alternative basing for the game which really gives an "irregular" look to the unit. In addition, I was able to add some extra details to the larger bases to make mini vignettes.

Okay it is self-indulgent time as I post various pictures of the completed War Band:
