Favorite Figures I Painted in 2023, Part 2

Continuing with the favorite figures I painted this year in no particular order:

6. This guy.

Another Perry Miniatures hard plastic Afghan Tribesman that I wanted to see how many weapons I could realistically put on him and still make him look somewhat realistic. Let's face it, every unit has "this guy." I based him on a watercolor of a Balachu tribesman I found.

7. Lt. Col Mathias, Commanding Officer, 1st Battalion, Gordon Highlanders.

"Highlanders! The General says the position is to be taken at all costs. The Gordons will take it!" Lt. Col Mathias before the heights of Dargai. Lt. Col. Mathais was recommended for the Victorian Cross but he was debarred by a War Office ruling that commanding officers were ineligible. Then as now, they see things differently then the men at the point of the spear.

8. The Ogre MK V.

Yep. Giant cybernetic tanks are cool.

9. Colour Sergeant Mackie, DSO, 1st Battalion, Gordon Highlanders.

"The last man to call it a skirt was kilt!"

10. Necron Warrior(s).

We will be seeing more of the Necrons in the future - not only in "the future" but in our pulp campaign in 2024 as the Monstrous Menacing Mechanical Man (BWAH HAH HAH!) of Fu Manchu!

Can't you just feel the terror?

11. Pashtun Drummer. This guy is on my list because of the time and effort I put into converting from a charging, wild eyed warrior into a charging, wild eyed drummer.

12. Piper George Findlater, VC.

Another of the heroes involved the charge of the Gordon Highlanders at Dargai Heights was Piper John Kidd. Piper Kidd was with Piper Findlater when, half-way up the heights, both pipers were shot down. Unmindful of his injuries, Piper Kidd sat up and continued to play "The Cock o' the North" as the troops advanced up the heights.

LATE ADDITION:

This is the Movember Figure for Men's Health that Bob Murch of Pulp Figures does every year. I painted him as an officer of Skinner's Horse circa 1900. I still need to fix the right eye and there will be a blog post in early 2024 with painting guide.

  1. A great bunch of figures Neil - I had not heard of piper Kidd, it is Piper Findlater who normally gest all the accolades!

    1. Honorable Son #1 (The Librarian) did some additional research on Piper Kidd after he read my blog. The man was a man's man.
